Ever Over After (The Over Duet #2)
Cover Design: DCP Designs
Release Date: January 9, 2017
Marlo … wild-eyed, untamed, and every single thing I’ve ever wanted from this life. I wasn’t ready for her back then. I was a stupid boy with adult feelings and no idea what to do with them. I squandered away every chance she gave me.
Yes, love like ours either burns white hot or crumbles under the pressure.
And now I’m back to sift through the rubble.
Questions and excuses are two things I have in spades. What I need now are answers.
Answers and Low.
My name is Ever Montgomery, and this is my story of love resurrected.

Marlo and Ever are back in Ever Over After…it’s a few years later and they are worlds apart from the teenagers they were in Low Over High. Before I get into the review of Ever Over After, let me just say that Low Over High decimated me. I was such a mess from that book and I couldn’t see how Marlo and Ever would make their way back to each other. Honestly, I thought it an improbability, but having read the entire Over Series, I knew J.A. DeRouen could do it.
Now, back to Ever Over After. I was stunned to see Ever in such a good place and thrilled to see Jeb was still in the picture. Side note: If the author reads this review, please give Jeb a book. Now that I got that out, I’m better lol. Ever seems like he has conquered his demons or is at least managing them. Marlo, on the other hand, is just existing. While she works in a rewarding field and has good friends, she is so closed off. You can see this throughout the whole series. Now that I know her story, it’s evident that she keeps people at a distance, especially men, and uses snark as a way to cover up the damage done to her. I’m not sure I would have responded any differently.
I love the way Ever let Marlo know he was in the area…if you read book 1, you know what I mean. I felt it was a good way not to overwhelm her and he was probably protecting himself as well. The author does a wonderful job in bringing their relationship full circle. I really want to say more yet I want people who haven’t read it to go in fresh. All I will say is Marlo wanted Ever, but she wanted him on her terms and he broke her walls down until he finally got her real story, allowing them to be together.
This book, actually, both books, will stomp on your heart until you wonder how it will make it’s next beat. I haven’t been so moved since reading Archer’s Voice. I applaud J.A. DeRouen for the whole series and especially this duet. She took the impossible and made it possible in Ever Over After.
There was pain and then came healing. By the time, the book was over, I was smiling. It was a watery smile, granted, and I had a book hangover for days…it was totally worth it. I know I’ll be rereading it again.
Congratulations, Ms. DeRouen, you deserve all 5 stars for this book, the duet, and the whole freaking series. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Hint hint: Jeb’s story 🙂
